So for the past month or so, Erin and I have been scouring the listings on Craigslist for a new apartment.  As many of you know, that is just a crapshoot and a dumping ground for junk posts with shit pictures, but it is pretty painless and gets the job done.

To make a very long story somewhat short, this past Thursday we filled out applications and paid the deposit to hold a place over off the Sherridan redline stop.  All good right?  Not really.

Saturday we were talking to one of our parents and going to google map the location of the new place to see what was all around there and unfortunately we found some disturbing information from Mr. Google.

In March 1994 a man by the name of Julius Kuntu poured gasoline into the stairwells and set fire to the entire 4th floor killing four children and three adults (PDF document of the court case, very informative yet discomforting).  He was eventually sentenced to death by the state of Illinois.

After finding this out, we wanted nothing to do with it.  The nail in the (F-this place coffin) was when we started reading the reviews from people who had lived there.

Closet doors would open, things would fall off the table. I was constantly picking things off the floor. One morning, my roommate asked me why I was spying on him the night before – we had WINDOWS between our rooms (which was strange all in itself – guess there was no other way to layout the apartment). He saw a girl in the window.

God, so back to the drawing board!  So Erin and I were bored Saturday so we decided to go use a company she used when she first moved here.  It was an apartment placement agency more of less.  So we scheduled an appointment.

We picked our criteria and a man picked out 4 places that matched.  We jumped in his car and went to check them out.  To save a little time, we ended up hating two, and loving two and since we couldn’t decide between the ones we liked we literally flipped a coin out in the street before going inside and picking.

The only catch to the whole thing was that I needed to call the haunted apartment people and let them know that it was just not going to work.  Imagine how nuts I must have sounded when I called to say that after all that, we don’t want the place and I’m going to put a stop payment on the deposit check because of a ghost problem?@#%#  He said he understood and that would be O.K. so we signed gave out another deposit check to secure the new place.  (Someday, in another blog post, I will explain why giving deposits out to hold places is just entirely bullshit)

The place we chose is up on Ravenswood and Grace.  Two bedroom, laundry, marble bathrooms, granite, stainless kitchen, very nice.  I think we made the right choice after all and should be super happy.

NOTE: Last night Erin and I watched the season opener of the show Ghost Hunters.  We weren’t very scared

Well the weekend is over and I’m pretty happy about that. It was long, hard and tiring. Nothing too out of the usual happened.  Erin drug me to get an iPhone Friday.  Wow, she was excited.  It reminded me of when I got mine.  I was so happy I couldn’t stand it.

Saturday was when we all went out for St. Patty’s day.  I’m not going to go into it too much but I had tons of fun seeing friends from around here and out of town.  Here is just one picture of the randomness that happened.
