Parsing RSS feeds with gAjax RSS Feeds Displayer

Well this post is actually related to a project I’m working on that I haven’t announced just yet, but I will very very soon. But basically, I wanted to combine a bunch of feeds together for some related ‘design news’. I tried a few mashup services like usual (rssmixer.com / feeddigest.com) and found that they really lacked some simple flexibility. Plus I didn’t really want to be completely tied into going to an outside source if I wanted to edit the list of feeds I was going to be pulling from.

I was talking to my friend Andy and he mentioned Jfeed, a jquery solution. I googled it, and tried it out and had a few novice type issues. Then read on a forum that someone suggested google’s solution so I pulled the code and tried it.

Within a few minutes, I had it up and running. Sorted about 8 feeds by post date. Here is the site I found my solution on.

All I had to do was:

First go grab an API key from google here
Download the javascript file (and the optional ‘loading.gif’)
Paste code before my <head> tag
Paste code in the <body>

and I was all done! It was super simple to just add sites’ rss feeds and tell it how many to display. It is even customizable as far as what tags will end up wrapping each part of the feed.

I highly recommend trying this. It will save me so much time in the future.
